1. What happens when a metal reacts with a dilute acid?
When a reactive metal reacts with a dilute acid, generally a salt and hydrogen gas are formed.

2. Why is Hydrogen Gas Produced?
Acids provide H⁺ ions in aqueous solution.
A sufficiently reactive metal loses electrons and hydrogen ions gain electrons to form hydrogen gas.

Thus hydrogen gas is evolved.

Metals above hydrogen in the reactivity series can generally displace hydrogen from dilute non-oxidising acids such as HCl and dilute H₂SO₄.
