Vacancy & Exam Overview

Unlike traditional recruitment exams, the UGC NET Assistant Professor JRF 2026 does not have a fixed number of "vacancies." Instead, it is a qualifying examination.

  • Assistant Professor: Qualifying this exam makes you eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in any university or college in India.

1. Educational Qualification

  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS: Must have secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from recognized universities.

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Transgender: A relaxation is provided; candidates need at least 50% marks in their Master’s degree.

  • Final Year Students: Candidates who are appearing for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) or whose results are awaited can also apply. However, they must complete their degree within two years from the date of the NET result with the required percentage.

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Not more than 30 years.

    • Relaxation: Up to 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Transgender, and Women applicants.

  • Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for the Assistant Professor eligibility.
