1. Introduction | परिचय
Resistivity (प्रतिरोधकता) किसी पदार्थ का वह विशिष्ट गुण है जो यह बताता है कि वह पदार्थ विद्युत धारा के प्रवाह का कितना विरोध करता है।
किसी चालक का resistance उसकी length, cross-sectional area और material पर निर्भर करता है। लेकिन resistivity केवल पदार्थ के स्वभाव (material) से संबंधित होती है और समान तापमान पर किसी निश्चित पदार्थ के लिए उसका मान निश्चित होता है।
ρ = RA / L
याद रखें: Resistance (R) किसी दिए गए conductor का गुण है, जबकि Resistivity (ρ) पदार्थ का intrinsic property है।
2. Resistance और Resistivity का संबंध
यदि किसी चालक की लंबाई L, cross-sectional area A और resistivity ρ है, तो:
R = ρL/A
इससे स्पष्ट है:

4. Definition of Resistivity
किसी पदार्थ की resistivity उस पदार्थ से बने ऐसे conductor के resistance के बराबर होती है जिसकी length 1 metre और cross-sectional area 1 m² हो।
अधिक वैज्ञानिक रूप से, ρ को पदार्थ का intrinsic electrical property माना जाता है, जो मुख्यतः material और temperature पर निर्भर करती है।

कम resistivity वाले पदार्थ electrical wiring के लिए उपयोगी होते हैं क्योंकि उनमें current के प्रवाह का विरोध कम होता है।

Copper की resistivity कम होती है। इसलिए समान dimensions पर copper wire का resistance कम होता है।
कम resistance के कारण electrical energy का unwanted heating loss कम रखने में मदद मिलती है।

9. Why Nichrome is Used in Heating Elements?
Heating elements में ऐसे पदार्थ की आवश्यकता होती है जिसका resistance अपेक्षाकृत अधिक हो और जो high temperature सह सके।
Nichrome की resistivity copper की तुलना में अधिक होती है। इसलिए उपयुक्त dimensions पर उसमें अधिक resistance प्राप्त किया जा सकता है।

जब current किसी resistance से गुजरता है तो electrical energy का एक भाग heat में बदलता है। इसी principle का उपयोग electric heater, toaster, iron आदि में किया जाता है।

1. Electrical Wiring: Copper और aluminium जैसे low-resistivity materials उपयोग किए जाते हैं।
2. Heating Elements: Nichrome जैसे relatively high-resistivity alloys उपयोग किए जाते हैं।
3. Resistance Wires: Specific resistance वाले alloys का उपयोग resistance coils में किया जाता है।
4. Electrical Components: Resistors बनाने के लिए अलग-अलग materials और dimensions चुने जाते हैं।
5. Precision Instruments: Constantan जैसे alloys का उपयोग ऐसे applications में किया जा सकता है जहाँ resistance को comparatively stable रखना उपयोगी हो।
11. Effect of Temperature
धातुओं में temperature बढ़ने पर atoms की thermal vibrations बढ़ती हैं। इससे charge carriers के scattering की संभावना बढ़ती है और सामान्यतः resistivity बढ़ती है।
