1. Introduction | परिचय
जब किसी चालक में विद्युत धारा प्रवाहित होती है, तो चालक का कुछ विद्युत ऊर्जा भाग
ऊष्मा ऊर्जा में परिवर्तित हो जाता है। इसे
विद्युत धारा का ऊष्मीय प्रभाव (Heating Effect of Electric Current)
कहा जाता है।
इस घटना को मात्रात्मक रूप से समझाने वाला महत्वपूर्ण नियम
Joule’s Law of Heating कहलाता है।
यह नियम बताता है कि किसी प्रतिरोधक में उत्पन्न ऊष्मा
धारा, प्रतिरोध और समय पर किस प्रकार निर्भर करती है।

अतः,

यदि विद्युत ऊर्जा पूरी तरह ऊष्मा में परिवर्तित हो रही है, तो:
H = VIt
Ohm's Law से:
V = IR
अतः V का मान रखने पर:

5. Dependence of Heat Produced | ऊष्मा किन कारकों पर निर्भर करती है?
① Current पर निर्भरता
H ∝ I²
यदि प्रतिरोध और समय स्थिर हों, तो ऊष्मा धारा के वर्ग के समानुपाती होती है।
यदि धारा दोगुनी कर दी जाए:
H' = (2I)²Rt = 4H
अर्थात् Heat चार गुनी हो जाएगी।
② Resistance पर निर्भरता
H ∝ R
यह संबंध constant current की स्थिति में है।
③ Time पर निर्भरता
H ∝ t
यदि current और resistance स्थिर हों, तो अधिक समय तक धारा प्रवाहित होने पर अधिक ऊष्मा उत्पन्न होगी।
⚠ Important:
यह कहना कि “जिसका resistance अधिक होगा उसमें हमेशा अधिक heat उत्पन्न होगी”
सही नहीं है।

7. Why Does Heating Occur? | ऊष्मा क्यों उत्पन्न होती है?
धातु के चालक में स्वतंत्र इलेक्ट्रॉन विद्युत क्षेत्र के कारण गति करते हैं।
ये इलेक्ट्रॉन चालक के परमाणुओं/आयनों से टकराते हैं।

Heating elements में सामान्यतः Nichrome का उपयोग किया जाता है क्योंकि:
इसकी resistivity अपेक्षाकृत अधिक होती है।
यह उच्च तापमान सह सकता है।
यह आसानी से oxidise नहीं होता।
इसका melting point उच्च होता है।
H = I²Rt
अधिक resistance उचित परिस्थितियों में अधिक heating effect प्राप्त करने में सहायता करता है।
11. Fuse and Joule’s Law | फ्यूज और जूल का नियम
Fuse एक सुरक्षा उपकरण है जो circuit को excessive current से बचाता है।
जब circuit में बहुत अधिक current प्रवाहित होती है:

Incandescent bulb में पतला tungsten filament बहुत अधिक तापमान तक गर्म होता है।

Tungsten का melting point बहुत अधिक है।
Filament का resistance पर्याप्त होता है।
Bulb में सामान्यतः inert gas या vacuum जैसी व्यवस्था होती है।

Commercial electrical energy के लिए kilowatt-hour (kWh) का उपयोग किया जाता है।
1 kWh = 3.6 × 10⁶ J
